*Cousin Catastrophe ~ Chapter 2*

Cassie shuffled over towards the couch, slowly sitting down. Her eyes were wide with the abrupt shock and the tip of her long, black tail was twitching.

“Petal… I-I…” Cassie’s voice cut off as Petal jumped to her paws, squealing. Her phone screen lit up with continuing messages. Petal swiped her gaze at her phone, then raising it to meet Cassie’s.

Her cheeks were puffy and red, and her eyes were full of excitement. “She is coming in tomorrow!” She squeaked. “I can’t wait!”

Cassie’s left ear twitched with igony. “Can’t wait either…” she muttered sarcastically. She prayed Petal didn’t hear her.

Surprisingly, Petal didn’t  hear her. Instead, she was skipping into her room deciding which outfit to wear. Once Cassie knew she was gone, she snatched her own phone and quickly dialed Jesse’s number.

The line rang for a few moments, intertwining with her own heartbeat. After a long second, Jesse accepted the line. Cassie could hear his soft breathing, and she couldn’t help but giggle.

Her small smile shortly vanished when she thought about Petal’s cousin arriving the next day. She tapped her phone screen a couple of times, making sure Jesse was still there.

“Jesse! Hi!” Cassie breathed. “H-How are you?”

“How am I?” Jesse replied crossly. “How are you?! You seem tense!”

Cassie let out a sigh that vibrated through the line. “Jesse… I have a problem.”

“I knew it,” There was a hint of amusement in Jesse’s tone. It died away to concern. “What’s goin’ on?”

“Petal’s cousin is coming in tomorrow. She’s staying for a couple of weeks. I’m afraid she won’t like me, or we won’t become the best of friends. Then Petal will be sad. I don’t want to let her down. And she seems to happy! What do I do?”


Confusion washed over Jesse as he listened to Cassie’s yelps. He thought about it for a minute, then turned back to their quiet conversation.

“I think that you should pretend to like the visit. Also, don’t hang around her cousin as much. She might get attached to you,” he explained carefully, keeping his voice calm and steady.

Cassie nodded briefly after Jesse was finished. “Thanks for the advice, boo,” she said softly, kissing the phone screen. She suddenly heard footsteps. It was Petal!

“Gotta go, bye!” Cassie quickly hung up before Jesse could say anything. She shoved her phone into her pocket, just as Petal strutted into the room, holding her sparkly purse.

“I’m gonna go to the mall,” She declared, grinning. She pulled out her silvery-white wallet and took out a couple of dollars. She looked up at Cassie and added, “Bye!”

Cassie waved as Petal skipped out the door. She spun around, landing on the couch. She let out a moan as she thought of the next day. What to do?!
